Thornapple Arts Council Art Hops CALL FOR ARTISTS Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to host Art Hops that showcase local artists, promote the arts, and bring visitors to downtown Hastings. The growing interest in the Art Hops has led to the scheduling of five Art Hops for 2008: May 9, June 27, July 25, Sept. 19, and Dec. 5th, from 5-9 p.m. Gallery space will be provided inside a participating downtown business for each artist. Every effort will be made to appropriately pair each artist and business. The events will be widely promoted by the DDA to attract visitors and encourage them to stroll through downtown and visit all of the participating businesses and artists. Host businesses often provide refreshments for visitors in order to make it a social occasion for all involved. Artists are responsible for contacting their host business prior to the Art Hop to coordinate arrangements for the evening. Artist Information and Deadline Requirements All artwork must be hand made by the artist. No kits, molds, mass-produced items or resale of items will be allowed. All artwork must be original, no facsimiles or clip art or derivative work will be accepted. Artists must provide an appropriate means of displaying their works. Displays are to be in place from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and artists are expected to remain with their exhiibit during that time to interact with public. To apply to participate please return the following application and enclose three color slides, photos, or digital files that are representative of the works you plan to exhibit, labeled with your name and address. Also include a brief bio and a picture of you with your art that may be used for publicity purposes. If you would like your materials returned, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope suitable for return of your materials with your application. The Downtown Development Authority has chosen not to charge artists to participate in the Art Hops. The Thornapple Arts Council also does not charge but would appreciate a donation of your artwork to sell at its Annual Art Auction on Saturday, November 8, 2008.
