Urban Art Walk

Urban Art Walk The Thornapple Arts Council will host a No Family Left Indoors Urban Art Walk Gallery at State Grounds Coffee House (108 East State Street, Hastings) starting Aug. 8, and the display will run through the weekend of Aug. 27.

There is an Urban Art Walk Gallery artist reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19 at State Grounds Coffee House.

Prizes will be awarded in three categories:

  • 0-8 year old participants
  • 9-18 year old participants
  • adult participants

Prize winners in all three categories will receive $26 and two sticks of gum (in honor of TAC’s 26th anniversary and because we like gum)!

We will have light refreshments for people who attend the gallery opening. We invite people to come in, look at the art, ask about the program, hang out for a little and enjoy the ambiance.

Three levels of purchase awards will be given to the winning entries:

Elementary School Level: a $100.00 Savings Bond for the winning entry and a $100.00 donation to the student’s school art program.

Middle School Level: a $200.00 Savings Bond for the winning entry

and a $150.00 donation to the student’s school art program.

High School Level: a $500.00 Savings Bond for the winning entry

and a $250.00 donation to the student’s school art program.

The timeline for the contest is as follows:

Sculpture ImageFriday, June 17:  Hastings Sculpture Exhibit Opening Celebration

The Downtown Hastings Sculpture Exhibit Opening Celebration will take place Friday, June 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will include musical entertainment as listed below. Docents and some of the artists will be present. The Friday night music line-up is as follows:

Art on the LawnSaturday, June 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Nashville Art on the Lawn

Art on the Lawn is a fine art show focused on the work of a Maple Valley artist or artists. This year the work of Eunice Priddy and her students is the focus. Art on the Lawn is also a hands-on opportunity for children of all ages to create art at the painting stations.

 

Art Prize Bus Tours

The Thornapple Arts Council will hire a bus to go to Grand Rapids during Art Prize again this year. The tour will be several hours long and include a tour guide. There will be several stops for people to get out and walk around.

The Thornapple Arts Council is organizing three four-hour bus tours to downtown Grand Rapids, scheduled for noon Saturday, Sept. 24; Saturday, Oct. 1; and Saturday, Oct. 8. The bus will depart from the Thornapple Arts Council office, located inside the former Presbyterian Church, at 231 S. Broadway Street in Hastings. The bus will be back by 4 p.m., and participants are encouraged to bring snacks if they would like them.

The tour will offer viewing from the comfort of a bus, as well as two or three stops to allow participants to exit the bus and get a closer look at some of this year’s works, including a few entries by Barry County area artists.Tickets are $15 (all ages) and must be purchased in advance at www.thornapplearts.org/artprize or by calling 269-945-2002.

 

17th Annual Thornapple Arts Council Auction for the Arts: Date TBD

The Auction for the Arts is held every fall, and continues to be the largest annual fundraiser for the Thornapple Arts Council. The money raised at the auction goes to support TAC programs, including the Jazz Festival, the Summer Youth Theater Program and Fridays at the Fountain.

Arts and EatsSaturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16: Arts and Eats tour

This back-roads driving tour of Barry County and the surrounding areas will feature local artists, studios, farms and restaurants. Participants will receive a map with all participating venues listed, and they can take the self-driven tour at their own pace, enjoying local food, art and the beautiful Michigan colors.
