All classes take place at Fish Hatchery Park in
the Thornapple Arts Council building.


DRAWING CLASSES

Drawing for Grades 4-6 Mondays, Sept. 22-Oct. 27 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Students will begin working with charcoal and transition into pastel, creating mixed media works. They will learn the basic skills associated with these mediums. Subjects will be the beauty of Fish Hatchery Park or a conventional still life, depending on weather conditions.
Instructor: Dennis O'Mara
Cost: $30+$10 Supplies Fee=$40

Drawing for Grades 7-12 Wednesdays, Sept. 24-Oct. 29 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Students will work with pencil and transition into charcoal and pastel. They will learn the basic skills associated with these mediums. Subjects will be the beauty of Fish Hatchery Park or a convention still life, depending on weather conditions. Supplies provided.

Dennis O'Mara is a former Hastings High art teacher, member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, and President of Grand Valley Artists in Grand Rapids.

CLAY CLASSES

Three clay classes will cover a variety of hand building and glazing techniques as well as potter's wheel for older students and adults.

Elementary Clay for ages 8-13 Tuesdays, Sept. 23 through Oct. 28 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Cost: $50

Teen Clay for ages 14-18 Tuesdays, Sept. 23-Oct. 28 5:45-7:15 p.m
Cost: $50

Adult Clay for ages 18 and older Tuesdays, Sept 23-Oct. 28 7:30-9:00 p. m.
Cost $50+$10 Supplies Fee=$60

Instructor Heidi Fahrenbacher holds a B.A. in Fine Arts and History from Kalamazoo College and has taught at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. Her work can be viewed at www.bellajoypottery.com.

FIBER ARTS CLASSES

Woven Jewelry Ages 13-Adult Tuesdays, Sept 23 and Sept.30 6:00-8 p.m.
Weave a lovely shawl pin or necklace - learn the basics of tapestry weaving and create a lovely piece of jewelry. We will bring magnificent shapes, textures and colors together using tapestry weaving techniques that are inventive and unusual.
Cost: $15 Limit 10 Students

Needle Felting Ages 8-16 Monday, Sept. 29 4:00-6:00 p.m.
We will create lovely flowers from colored wool. Learn the basic techniques for needle felting that can then be used to embellish fabric or knitted items. Needle felting can be used to crate small embellishments or a full item like a hat.
Cost: $10 Limit 12 Students

Ring Weaving Ages 8-13 Tuesdays, Sept 23 and Sept. 30 4:00-5:30 p.m.
This is an exercise in unstructured creativity, for someone interested in tapestry weaving. In this workshop you will need to explore the unusual and let your imagination go wild. Learn to let your imagination be your guiding force.
Cost: $15 Limit 10 Students

Instructor Jill Turner has been spinning and weaving for nearly 30 years and has taught throughout the Midwest and East for the past 20 years.

Jill designs and creates commission tapestry weaving, and over the last 5 years has begun designing knitting patterns. She has been felting for about 8 years and has taught needle felting for the past several years at her shop, the Lady Peddler, where she also teaches spinning and knitting.

MIXED MEDIA CLASSES

The Mask Project Ages 12-Adult Saturdays, Oct. 18 & 25 2:00-5:00p.m.
Instructor: Bonnie Slayton
Create exciting masks during the first session. One out of plaster gauze strips, which can be applied directly to the face, the other with 3-dimensional paper techniques of sturdy card stock and fabric. During the second class we will add embellishments and paint to the masks, then create improve storytelling, movement, and theater with our masks. This is an intergenerational class, great to do with child or grandchild.
Cost: $20+$10 supply fee payable to the instructor=$30
